Birch and Bracken growing amongst the Heather on Wharncliffe Heath

Its that time again, when we begin the annual Birch clearance on the heathland. So come and join The Steel Valley Project and Wharncliffe Heathlands Trust and enjoy views of the Upper Don Valley while helping to preserve this local nature reserve.
No experience is necessary and work gloves and tools will be provided. Loppers and bow-saws will be used in order to control the 'wild' growth of Birch amongst the Heather. Please wear stout footwear and wear appropriate clothing for the time of year and bring a packed lunch.

Meet at the River Don bridge on Station Road Deepcar (near Lowoods Working Men's Club) SK 291 980 at 11.00 am. Scheduled to finish at 4.00pm. But help is greatly appreciated whether you can stay all day or just an hour or two.
