Habitat management with Stocksbridge Junior pupils

09 Sep 2009

The team spent the morning of 8th July helping enthusiastic Year 6's tend the valuable habitat on their school grounds in response to their wish to carry out a task which would have a positive impact on the school before leaving for High School.
The work involved light pruning of the Hazel, Beech and Hornbeam hedge, weed control of overgrowing Brambles, Dock leaves and Nettles and clearing the ground for wild flower seed dispersal. The children were very keen and busy individuals and learnt more after asking questions about local bird-life, native hedgerows and discovering the various insects that found home within the hedge.
