Improving access to Wharncliffe Woods

Routes to be improved on Wharncliffe

The Steel Valley Project is working to improve access to Wharncliffe Woods.
As part of capital works funded by the South Yorkshire Environment Trust we have made improvements at the northern access off Station Road in Deepcar, leading under the tunnels, over the Trans-Pennine Trail and up to the Heath past the ponds.
Access to the Woods further south is also being improved, with new drainage channels and footpath surfacing being installed.
We are also putting in new gates and access controls to try and reduce the problems caused by motorbike riding and fly-tipping, which not only cause damage to the environment but pose a safety hazard to other users of the Wood and the TPT.

There is plenty to explore around Wharncliffe, whether it's the Woods, Crags, Chase or Heath. Try our Forge, Crags & Heath Heritage Trail, or join Wharncliffe Heathlands Trust activities.
